Eligibility Criteria

1. Educational Qualification

• Candidates must possess a Degree in Law (LL.B. 3-Year or 5-Year Integrated) from a Bar Council of India (BCI) recognized University or Institute.
• The law degree must be officially completed on or before the specified cutoff date in the notification.

2. Age Limit (Calculated as on Cutoff Date)

• Minimum Age Limit: 22 Years
• Maximum Age Limit (Unreserved Male): 35 Years
• Maximum Age Limit (Unreserved Female / EBC / BC): 40 Years
• Maximum Age Limit (SC / ST): 40 Years
• PwD Candidates: Age relaxation of 10 years as per Bihar State Government norms.

Selection Process & Syllabus Structure

The selection process for Bihar PCS J consists of three successive stages:

The Prelims exam consists of two objective papers:

The Mains examination consists of 5 Compulsory Papers and 3 Optional Papers chosen from the specified legal subjects:

Compulsory Written Papers

Optional Law Papers (Choose Any 3 Subjects)

Candidates must choose 3 optional papers (150 Marks each) from the following list:

1. Constitutional and Administrative Law of India
2. Hindu Law and Muhammadan Law
3. Law of Transfer of Property, Principles of Equity, Law of Trusts & Specific Relief
4. Law of Contracts and Torts
5. Commercial Law (Company Law, Partnership, Sale of Goods, Negotiable Instruments)

Stage 3: Personal Interview (Viva-Voce)

• Marks Allotted: 100 Marks
• Candidates scoring a minimum of 35% marks in the interview are evaluated for the final merit list. The final selection is based on total marks obtained in the Mains Written Papers (Merit Subjects) + Interview.

1. Visit the official online application portal of BPSC: onlinebpsc.bihar.gov.in.
2. Click on the link “Online Registration – Bihar Judicial Services Competitive Examination 2026”.
3. Complete the initial registration using an active email address and mobile number.
4. Log in using the system-generated Username and Password received via SMS or email.
5. Pay the required application fee using online payment options (Debit Card / Credit Card / Net Banking / UPI).
6. Fill in personal details, LL.B. degree details, enrollment details (if applicable), and optional subject choices for Mains.
