The Arizona Diamondbacks have officially placed All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte on the team's restricted list.
The decision follows an unexcused absence in Boston, where Marte unexpectedly failed to report to Fenway Park before game time.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo addressed the media, calling the sudden absence baffling while expressing concern for Marte.
Team officials confirmed they are actively attempting to make contact with Marte to address the personal situation.
To fill the open roster spot during Marte's absence, Arizona recalled infielder Jose Fernandez from Triple-A Reno.
Marte has been a key offensive pillar for the D-backs this season, hitting 21 home runs and driving in 67 RBIs.
Marte will remain on the restricted list without pay until the team and MLB resolve his current roster status.
